About the Author

I've always liked to write, to tell stories, At least in part because I like to read. Reading and writing allows me to be in other places and times, to experience things I could never in the "real" world, and to remember and cherish the good times, the times when one actually LIVES. Another part is that I'm somewhat introverted and have always found it easier to express myself with the written word than by speaking. Dozens of years as coach, scoutmaster, volunteer, and business leader have forced me to be more relaxed in speaking and better at it; I still prefer to write. It can also be cathartic. I've used writing to help me through life's disappointments. But, mostly, writing is one way to gain fullness from life.

I like to share my "play" with words. I particularly enjoy it when someone finds something they like and can relate to in my writing. People have said that my poems are often soothing, calming, quieting. Some of them provoke thought, some humor; perhaps a wry grin. Then there is my prose. Most of my flash fiction is a bit whimsical; though there can be deeper emotions. I try to keep it all direct. That is the way I like to have things given to me; so I try to keep it simple, at least on the surface. I hope you try some and let me know what you think.

My nonfiction highlights things that are somewhat off the beaten path. My longer fiction I hope moves the story differently, providing twists and turns to the plot in new ways, introducing multi-faceted, interesting characters with both depth and breadth. And, most importantly, tells a compelling story.
